Dumpster rental service
Garage and household cleanouts without the endless trips
Garage and household cleanouts usually start with good intentions and a free weekend. Then the real volume shows up: boxes, broken furniture, shelving, sports gear and things nobody remembers buying. A dumpster at the end of the driveway lets you work at your own pace and toss as you go, rather than ferrying loads to a facility over several trips. We deliver and collect with our own team around Decatur and nearby towns.
Call (217) 615-5514 or use the live chat to describe what you are clearing: one garage, a basement, an estate or a whole house. We serve Decatur, Mount Zion, Forsyth, Maroa, Warrensburg, Harristown and Macon. Size, timing and price depend on the job and are confirmed when you call.

Sort first, then load
Make three zones
Mark areas for keep, donate or sell, and discard. Only the discard zone goes to the container.
Clear a path
Move things out of the front so you can reach the back wall. A cleared walkway also makes carrying heavy items safer.
Set aside problem items
Pull out paint, chemicals, tires, batteries and appliances into their own pile so they are not loaded by mistake.
Break things down
Flatten boxes and take apart shelving and furniture where you can. Flat loads use the container space more efficiently.
What usually goes in
Most of what fills a garage or a spare room can go into the container:
- Old furniture, broken shelving and worn-out storage units
- Cardboard boxes, packing material and general clutter
- Toys, sports gear and household items past repair
- Carpet, rugs and scrap wood
- General household junk from basements, attics and sheds
Where the risky items go instead
Garages hold the products most likely to be refused. Illinois EPA organizes one-day household hazardous waste collections on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its long-term sites are in Naperville, Rockford, Chicago, Gurnee and Wood River, none of them near Decatur, so ask Macon County Environmental Management when the next local date is.
- Paint, pesticides, solvents and strong cleaners
- Motor oil and fuel
- Vehicle batteries, banned from Illinois landfills since September 1, 1990
- Used tires, banned from landfills since July 1, 1994
- Refrigerators, freezers and other appliances with their components still inside. Ask us before loading any
Could the city's bulky pickup cover it?
For a small job, check this first. The City of Decatur says residential service includes 5 separate bulky-waste collections each year, with up to 5 items in each. If you are clearing a couple of pieces of furniture, that may be all you need. A full garage, a basement or an estate usually goes beyond it, which is when a container makes sense. If you live outside the city, check what your own service provides.
Yard debris is a separate matter. Decatur residential customers get weekly yard waste pickup from March 1 through December 15, so leaves and branches from the cleanup rarely need a container. If you do have a large amount of it, see our page on yard waste disposal.

Where the container sits
Most cleanouts use the driveway, close to the garage door so you are not carrying items far. Choose a flat, firm spot with open space above it, and keep cars out of the way on delivery day. If any part of the container would be on the street, a permit from the city or county may be needed, so check with the local authority first. Our permit article lists what to ask. If you live in an association, check its rules too.

Pace, size and price
Cleanouts move at the speed of the people doing them, so tell us honestly how long you expect to take. The rental period, the container size and the price depend on the job and are confirmed when you call; we do not list dimensions or weight limits here. Read the garage cleanout checklist before you start, and use the size guides for the general picture of how containers compare.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Still deciding? Talk to Macon County Dumpster Co about your project.
Can I throw out furniture and boxes during a cleanout?
Yes, old furniture, shelving, cardboard and general clutter are what these containers are used for. Break larger pieces down so they sit flat and use the space well. Keep the load below the top edge of the sides so the container can be hauled safely.
What do I do with old paint and chemicals from the garage?
Keep them out of the container. Take them to a household hazardous waste collection instead. Illinois EPA runs free one-day events on Saturdays, and Macon County Environmental Management can tell you about dates near Decatur. Store the products sealed and upright until then.
Can I put an old refrigerator or freezer in the container?
Appliances that still have their components cannot go to Illinois landfills, so do not load them without asking us first. Call, tell us what it is, and we explain the options. Removing the components is a separate process, so do not attempt it without the right guidance.
Is a dumpster better than the city's bulky pickup?
It depends on volume. Decatur residential service includes 5 bulky-item collections a year, up to 5 items each, which suits a few pieces. A full garage or a house cleanout usually exceeds that. If you are unsure, call us and describe what you have.
How do I know how much space my cleanout needs?
Walk through and count the rooms, the shelving and the large items, then tell us. We discuss sizes in general terms and confirm the choice when you call. Bulky but light clutter fills space quickly, so it is better to describe what you have than to guess a size.
