FAQ
FAQ: dumpster rental questions answered
This FAQ collects the questions we hear most often from people planning a cleanout or a build in and around Decatur, IL. The answers are general, because the right choice for your project depends on the material, the site and the schedule.
Where an answer depends on your job, we say so and tell you what we confirm when you call. If your question is not here, call (217) 615-5514 or start a LIVE CHAT and ask us directly.

How to use these answers
Start with the groups that match your project. If you are sorting through a house, read the answers about what can go in and what cannot. If you are working with a contractor, read the sections on placement and permits first, since those affect the schedule most.
Several answers link to longer guides, including our size guide and our post on what cannot go in a dumpster. Treat these as a starting point, then confirm the specifics with us before you book.

Still deciding? Talk to Macon County Dumpster Co about your project.
What can I put in a rental dumpster?
Common loads include furniture, flooring, drywall, lumber, roofing material and general household junk. Renovation and construction debris also fit. Because rules vary with the material, tell us what you plan to throw away and we will confirm anything that looks questionable before delivery.
What cannot go in a dumpster?
Paint, chemicals, batteries, tires and asbestos must stay out. These can harm people, equipment and the environment, and several are restricted from Illinois landfills. If you are unsure about an item, ask us before it goes in, since removing it later is much harder.
Where do I take household hazardous waste?
Illinois EPA runs one-day collections on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its permanent sites are in Naperville, Rockford, Chicago, Gurnee and Wood River, none near Decatur. Check with Macon County Environmental Management for local collection dates.
Can old appliances go in the dumpster?
Illinois bans appliances from landfills when their components have not been removed. That means a refrigerator or washer may need special handling. Tell us about any appliances when you call, and we will explain how to deal with them before you load anything.
Can I throw away yard waste in a dumpster?
Illinois has banned landscape waste from landfills since 1990, so brush and leaves need care. Decatur residential customers also get weekly curbside yard waste pickup from March 1 through December 15. If you have a large yard cleanup, call us and we will confirm the best approach.
Can I dispose of construction debris in a dumpster?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons people rent one. Illinois prohibits open dumping of construction and demolition debris, which must go to a permitted facility. A rented dumpster gives that material a proper route. See our construction dumpster rentals page for more.
How do I choose a dumpster size?
Think about the type of material first, then the volume. Heavy debris needs a different plan than light bulky items. Our size guide offers general guidance, and we recommend a size when you call. If your project falls between two sizes, we explain the trade-off.
Can you give exact dimensions, weight limits or prices?
Not on the website. Dimensions, weight limits and costs depend on the dumpster and the job, so we confirm them when you call. That way the numbers you hear apply to your actual project rather than a general estimate.
Where should the dumpster go?
Most customers choose a driveway. You need clear space for the truck to back in, with no low wires or branches above and firm ground below. We talk through placement when you book, since it depends on your property and what is nearby.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street?
Possibly. A dumpster in the public right of way may need a permit from the city or county. Check with the local authority before you book. We do not state permit fees. Our blog post on Decatur dumpster permits explains who to contact.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
The rental period is confirmed at booking because it depends on your project and schedule. A weekend garage cleanout and a multi-week remodel need different terms. Tell us how long you expect to need it, and we will agree on the period together.
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (217) 615-5514 or open the LIVE CHAT on our website. Describe your project, the material and the delivery address. We confirm size, timing and cost with you during that conversation, and then we set up your delivery.
Is the cost the same for every job?
No. Cost depends on factors such as the size, the material and the schedule, and we confirm it when you call. Our post on dumpster rental cost factors in Decatur explains what usually affects the number so you know what to ask.
Which towns do you deliver to?
We deliver to Decatur, Mount Zion, Forsyth, Maroa, Warrensburg, Harristown and Macon. If your address is outside those towns, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach it rather than promise something we cannot do.
Is a bulky item pickup from the city enough for my cleanout?
For a few items, it might be. Decatur residential service includes five bulky waste collections a year, with up to five items each. Larger projects such as a full garage or a remodel usually need a dumpster instead.
When can I call to book?
Any time. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by phone and LIVE CHAT. If you reach us late at night, you can still describe the job, and we will go through the details with you.
